About AgedCarer

Caring for an ageing person can often be difficult, confusing, lonely and even disheartening. We also live in a society that tends to place a lower value on our older generation and it's rare to hear positive stories in the mainstream media about aged care. AgedCarer was founded on the principle that it shouldn't be this way. All of us will need to make a contribution to the care of our ageing parents, relatives or friends - in effect, we'll all be "aged carers" at some stage. And yes, we do believe that with the right information, skills, community support and access to services, aged care, whilst very challenging, can be a uniquely rewarding experience through compassion, care and love. In essence, our goal for AgedCarer.com.au is to provide a place online where carers can all benefit from the following content and services:

  • Easy to understand information about aged care health issues without complex medical jargon or biased commercial influences.
  • Tips from experts and other carers to make caring experiences easier and more fulfilling.
  • A way to easily navigate the complexities of government, community and private assistance.
  • A community of carers who can discuss aged care issues openly in forums and on their own blogs, or form special interest and community groups for more active interaction. In addition, carers can create secure private groups to share information about ageing parents, relatives or friends amongst other family members without needing to resort to daily phone calls and duplicated calendars. Carers can also get questions answered by our aged care experts, or find out how to benefit from volunteering in your local community.
  • A single source of aged care news from multiple media and government sources so you can stay abreast of the issues that may affect you as a carer.
  • Over time we will also introduce product and services directories so carers can find solutions to many of their needs from one location.

AgedCarer does not pretend to be a substitute for professional care or diagnosis by a qualified health professional, nor do we try and duplicate the excellent array of information and services provided by government and aged care associations. Instead, we have focussed on helping you access a broad range of these services from a single location.  Whilst AgedCarer is a totally free service for registered users, we do need to sustain the website through revenue from advertising and other commercial activities. Our editorial policy is to ensure that you are always made aware of any commercial activity and that our contributors are never unduly influenced by our commercial partnerships. We also provide the means for carers using the website to report any activity in forums and groups that they feel is inappropriate, and always maintain a steadfast respect for your privacy whilst using AgedCarer. Finally, AgedCarer is an independent start-up company founded by Emma Hamilton, who has worked as Registered Nurse in aged care facilities for the past two decades. The company has taken no financial investment and has relied on the good will of friends and associates in the aged care community to get the website to this point. And now we want you, the carers, to help us understand what content and services we can add that will help you the most. We welcome your feedback any time...
