Sharon Wall - Dementia Care Expert

Sharon is a Registered General Nurse, a Registered Geriatric Nurse, has a Diploma of Nursing Education, a Diploma of Counselling, a Degree in Health Sciences and a Masters of Public Health. She has a long and respected history working in aged care for over 30 years, specifically in the area of dementia and dementia care, and is the founder of Ageing By Caring.

Sharon Wall has an experienced portfolio which incorporates education, research and clinical practice across the residential and community care sectors. She sits and advices on a number of reference groups, steering committees and boards. She is a long standing member and past president of the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) – NSW and is a Fellow of the National Association.

She has been, and continues to be, widely sought to address national and international forums on various aspects of aged care and dementia management and is well published in these areas. She has been the author and co- author of a number of training resources to assist staff working in aged care to deliver "good practice" and has developed a particular expertise in the area of dementia and challenging behaviours. She has worked extensively with people of culturally diverse backgrounds and has developed valuable resources in this area.

She has developed particular interests in the area of end of life issues and end of life decision making for older people and has recently co-authored a text on this subject.

She has become particularly committed to the provision of "person centred" and "person directed" aged care practice and has developed resources and approaches which have contributed to the change of culture in many large aged care organisations.

Her client base is particularly diverse and clients include state government organisations, area health services, and NGO’s and consumer organisations, (amongst others)

She treasures working collaboratively with other consultants and organisations in Australia and overseas to provide the necessary blending of skills for individualised and specialised approaches to projects.
