Rik Dawson - Gerontological Physiotherapist

Rik completed his B.App.Sc (physiotherapy) at Sydney University in 1993. He is active in the Australian Physiotherapy Association Gerontology Special Interest Group and has undertaken further study in the area of Gerontological Physiotherapy.

These memberships have fuelled Rik’s passion for evidence based physiotherapy in the community care environment. Rik is the Director of Agewell Physiotherapy and commenced operations in 1998. Agewell Physiotherapy is an aged care practice that focuses on the needs of people living in Residential Aged Care and the community. Agewell supports staff in NSW, the ACT and QLD. Agewell Physiotherapy is an Australian Physiotherapy Association Quality Endorsed Practice, and received the Aged Care Standards Association Award for Better Practice in Residential Care for Falls Prevention in May 2006 and runner up the National Positive living in Aged Care for Dance Therapy.

Rik recently hosted a program on the Aged Care Channel titled “Looking After Your Back” and “Safe Manual Handling for Nurses”. Agewell Physiotherapy is endorsed by WorkCover NSW to implement their new “Manual Handling Competencies for Nurses’ program in 2007. Rik received the Australian Physiotherapy Associations award for Professional Excellence in 2006. Rik also has a degree in Performing Arts and completed his Associate Diploma in Opera Singing in 2003.
