Shoe horns: For people with problems bending

Shoe horns are an essential aid for anyone who has problems bending over to put a shoe on or reaching for their feet.

Shoe horns are light and easy to use and assist a person to fit their foot comfortably into a tight shoe.

For people with arthritis or stroke a shoe horn can make getting dressed quicker and easier.

Carers also benefit from using a shoe horn as they don't have to bend over in an uncomfortable position to put a shoe on properly.

You can find shoe horns at your local pharmacy, online or search for your closest medical rehabilitation shop.

You can also get more information on equipment to help if you have difficulty bending or getting dressed from your local Independent Living Centre. Independent Living Centre (ILC) is an information and advisory service about assistive technology. Assistive technology is anything that can help you do a task. They have Occupational Therapists who can help you decide what you need. Solutions can involve equipment, changing a technique, using a service, handy hints or adapting something you can find around the home. They are a non profit organisation and do not sell equipment. Call 1300 885 886 to be connected to your local Independent Living Centre. There is one located in each state of Australia!
