Home care aids to help with mobility

Walking frames and aids can help people maintain balance and strength.

People who are unsteady on their feet and at risk of falls will find a walking frame or aid helpful. Anyone recovering from illness or injury may benefit from the temporary use of a walking frame or walking aid.

Electric scooters and motorised wheelchairs are also great devices to promote independence and a change of environment.

Popular mobility aids to consider include:

  •  Walking frames - can be for in or outdoor use, with wheels, baskets, seats and various styles of brakes
  •  Shopping trolleys - great for storage on shopping trips, some come with seats for resting on.
  •  Walking sticks and crutches - provide simple support, can be adjustable, folding with various hand grips.
  •  Wheelchairs - can be motorised or manual, folding or rigid
  •  Electric scooters - for use in or outdoors, scooters can have different powers, ranges and styles
