Delirium

Delirium is a serious medical condition causing acute confusion. People with delirium experience changes in cognition such as disorientation, agitation and delusions. Unlike dementia, symptoms of delirium occur suddenly.   

Dementia

Dementia is the term used to describe a number of conditions that cause damage to the structure and chemistry of the brain. Damage to the brain causes a progressive loss of memory, orientation, judgement and insight.
