Skin tear protection

Does anyone know where to find skin protectors? Mum has very skinny legs and previous protectors fell off and after lots of washing lost their shape. She has very frail skin which gets knocked about on her wheelchair. Appreciate any advice.

Hello Suz88 Tubigrip is difficult to pull on. It is a compression garment & I don't recommend it as a limb protector for frail aged skin. It can compromise blood flow. I'd go for something really soft & thick like Sama Frottee that your mother might be able to pull on herself, even with arthritis. You shouldn't need bandages underneath.........but perhaps have long pants & long sleeved garments over the Sama Frottee. I'd love to hear how you get on!

Thanks Catherine, we have been using tubi grip over a bandage. It still leaves some marks on the skin so maybe I should get another size up? after a few washes it was ok. She can't manage the tubi grip on her own as she has arthirtis in hands. I will look into the other suggestion. Many thanks.

You can buy thick limb protectors Sama Frottee from Biomet Australia; Ryde comes in different colours and sizes; Smith & Nephew have one that is all white; and there is a thin limb protector called Tubifast from Molnlycke. If you like this I suggest you double it over the limbs for extra padding. All products can be purchased on a roll & you then cut to size.

Try cutting off the tops of thick sport socks as they can fit snuggly and protect the skin!!! Also put sheepskin around wheelchair legs or just pad the peddles up with soft material. Hope that helps.
